The Little Details Matter
When designing spaces, focusing on the little accent pieces and small notes to the person living in the space is an essential step in your design process. I always admire certain pieces that came from a local antique shop or were hand-me-downs from past relatives because they tell a story. I always say that my goal for each of my designs is that when someone walks into your space, they can immediately tell who you are- or at least what your style is! Having small details that tell a story about you integrated into your space is the key to a personal and well-designed room!
Not only is antiquing good for the environment but it is so fun as well! I have spent many hours roaming through the depths of antique stores with friends and family and it is fascinating that every lap you take, you will spot something you did not see before. It is like a little scavenger hunt! My favorite antique find was a beautiful blue and white porcelain rolling pin that I am currently saving away for my future house! Antique finds make you feel excited about the past and the future at the same time. There is something so pure about integrating something that someone has already loved dearly into your new space and giving it new life! I encourage everyone to stop by an antique store to have a scavenger hunt for your newest little detail or even statement piece for your space!
Minimalism is a major trend right now in the world of interiors. I myself can appreciate some minimalism in my own spaces and I do think that a noncluttered space correlates to a noncluttered mind. I encourage you to prioritize this idea when it comes to designing a space! However, I also believe in making a space welcoming and like I said earlier, to tell a story about who you are. To do this, you need to have a little more detail than some of the cold and ultra-modern houses that are trending. For example, picture frames or gallery walls with sweet memories, flower vases with fresh florals scattered among the space, or seashell finds you have collected over the years! All of these bring life and a story into your room which will remind you of why life is so beautiful which in return will make you excited and motivated all from your interior design! Isn't that so cool?! The little details matter and make an impact on the quality of the design and the person the space belongs!
Currently, I am using my grandfather's old tennis racket that he played with for years in my bedroom. This tennis racket not only adds a classic vintage touch to the bright and coastal vibe of the room, but it also reminds me of my memories with him. Vintage details can be more than just a decoration, they are special and need to be incorporated somehow to keep our history and memories alive with us! The little details create character in homes and are essential to creating a welcoming and warm space that all of your guests will look forward to coming to!
