Wallpaper… Let’s talk about it

On the first day of my creativity in fashion and interiors class this past semester, my professor asked us to volunteer to share what we think is the greatest invention of all time. I confidently raised my hand to say “I think the greatest invention of all time is peel-and-stick wallpaper!” While that may be an exaggeration of the greatest invention ever, I will stick to my love for wallpaper of any kind. Whether it be peel and stick, vinyl, a crazy pattern…etc. I believe that incorporating the creative aspect of wallpaper into your space really adds to the overall experience you get out of your space. Let's talk more in depth on what kinds of wall paper there are, and how to pick the right wallpaper for you!

Recently, I have been redecorating my bedroom and I wanted to bring in some added patterns to my walls. I had no knowledge on what wallpaper to buy, what would look good, or even how to install it. I chose to do a peel-and-stick option since that is the easiest to install yourself, and the most budget-friendly option as well. I went on Amazon, and looked through different “coastal peel and stick wallpapers” and came across this pattern from a company called NextWall Wallpaper. INSERT PHOTO OF WALLPAPER HERE. Each roll has 30.75 square feet and costs around $30, which is quite affordable for a quick DIY project. It is very important to research if your wallpaper choice is printed on low VOC material. VOC stands for “Volatile Organic Compound” and can cause many health issues. I will do a blog solely on VOCs in the future! This wallpaper was incredibly easy to apply and had a few different colors to choose from. If you are looking for a renter-friendly option, a quick and easy DIY project or this is your first time using wallpaper, peel-and-stick options are perfect for you!

Here are some of the three best removable wallpaper companies that I found!

If you want a wallpaper that is more permanent and may require professional installation, you need a traditional wallpaper or a faux grasscloth one! The main difference between a traditional wallpaper and peel-and- stick wallpaper is that a traditional option means it does not have a self-adhesive feature. Traditional wallpapers need an adhesive that is soaked or pasted onto the wall before applying. However, while it is the most common route to have a professional install your traditional wallpaper, you can still choose to do it yourself. You can get paste from your local hardware store to work as the adhesive for your wallpaper, this is only a more difficult option and you might take longer. The choice is yours but if you have some extra time on your hands, go for it! You want to make sure when you are looking for a traditional wallpaper, that it is non-woven. This means that the back of the wallpaper contains natural and synthetic fibers making it more breathable to reduce mold. The main idea of a traditional wallpaper is that it will be on the wall for a long time. So if you are ready to commit to a design in your space, and do not want to apply it yourself, then traditional wallpapers are the way to go!

Here are some of the best traditional wallpaper companies I found!

Depending on the type of project and space you are designing, both peel and stick and traditional wallpapers are what you want to look into using! Both have their pros and cons such as durability, ease, and look! Before you buy wallpaper for your new space, make sure you look into the one you are buying to make sure it works the best for you! There are so many options and companies to choose from and you know your space best!
