Why I Chose Interior Design…

I am so blessed to be writing this right now! I have always had an entrepreneurial spirit since I was a little girl. I remember my parents taking me to ToysRUs and the toy I picked was a “build your own business” kit for kids. I can’t imagine many kids picking that up as their toy of choice but there I was, deciding that I wanted to start my own business as a little child. Little did I know that this passion of mine would perfectly pair with my future career.

A year ago, as a freshman in college, I decided I needed to change my major from biology to interior design. I know what you're thinking - “Wow, that's a big change!” or “Why interior design?” Well, after the many breakdowns over my bio homework… I remember one morning from my senior year in high school after we had a Christmas party with some old family friends. One of our family friends announced that she would be attending an interior design program and it sparked some interest in me. The next morning I came down to the kitchen and said “I want to go to interior design school”, merely as a dream, and without any real research on what that meant. After the many sleepless nights and stress from being a biology major, I remembered this and thought “Well why not?” So I did my research and found the Furnishings and Interiors major at the University of Georgia and it felt right. I knew that this was where God was calling me to be.

This past year has been full of excitement and opportunity since I decided to come to UGA and change my major. I have always had a great appreciation for a designer level in interiors as well as exteriors. Along with this, I always noticed how a beautifully designed space made me feel. It made me feel inspired as well as at peace. Being in a space where every detail was carefully thought out and catered to the person it belonged to, both calms and excites me. I want to bring this peace and excitement to other people. I feel as if everyone can have the space of their dreams that they see on their TV and that they should design their spaces according to what they are passionate about. Interior design has a significant impact on mental health in that the way a space is designed can impact a person's mood and thoughts. I want to promote positive mental health by creating spaces where people can thrive!

You will notice as you are reading through my blog and looking at my projects, that I adore anything coastal and the traditional Cape Cod style. I am also really drawn to the traditional colonial style you typically will see in many of the southern states. My dream home perfectly combines the peaceful and organic parts of the coastal style and the charming and welcoming sides of an old historic colonial home. I also adore using new and old pieces in your spaces to perfectly balance your design.

This blog is my first step to pursue this passion! I am so excited to get started on this journey where I begin sharing my passion for interior design with others. Throughout my next three years in college, I want to use this blog to inspire, create, and learn while sharing my opinions on interior trends, and current projects and creating a community with others. I am so excited to share my journey into the charming world of interior design with you all and I could not be more blessed that you are here!
